Some are mathematicians, some are doctor's wives...

JobsRated.com's ranking of 200 jobs

Mathematician comes in at #1.

And oh, what's that at #4? Biologist, you say?

W....T....F...?

Let's just say that the income is overexaggerated, the number of work hours per week is underestimated. And the stress level of the job? Oh please. Did they even talk to anyone who does science research for a living?

And let's not even talk about the scarcity of NIH grant money these days. Or the number of biotech companies laying people off or going under completely.

Maybe I should have asked Santa for a new career for Christmas. Oops.

  1. I went off on a long rant about everything that is frustrating about science to Geoff Ryman. He looked a little scared at the end and kept saying, "Really?"

I think I've gotten to a point in my life where no other profession will offer me any new surprises/disappointments. I'll always counter with, "Well I was a SCIENTIST." And anyone grouching about their job will just slink away.

And yes, I will be THAT guy. Or in my case, gal.

  2. I went on a similar rant to two different people today about how awful of an experience grad school has been for me. Think I scared the hell out of both of them.

And obviously I am already THAT guy, because I just got all shouty on my blog about it. Sigh.
