Damn good book. I'm surprised it took me this long to get around to it, since I really enjoyed the movie.
Had an interesting discussion with Kelly about the characters afterward. About how I enjoyed the book more than the movie, because it let you get a lot more into the mind of Anton Chigurh, and how you end up seeing him as a completely rational human being. Everything he does makes sense and is totally predictable, once you understand his set of principles. Interesting, since he's an absolutely terrifying person. Everyone else in the novel suffers from the flaw of loving something - a person, money, reputation - which causes them to act irrationally and eventually leads them to their downfall. But not Chigurh, and that's why he lives in the end.
This book made me realize how much I miss reading. And how much I miss talking about books. It's something I've neglected entirely too much this year.

We should start a book club (either online or in real life). I know Golden Hill has a book club that meets once a month at Rebecca's. It always sounds interesting to me, but I'm still not 100% clear on what is involved with book clubbing :-) - Alix
ReplyDeleteI've thought about it a couple of times, but I always shy away because I'm not sure I can commit to reading a book on a set schedule so as to keep up with everyone else. Also, I'm kind of shy, especially when it comes to that sort of stuff.
ReplyDeleteHowever, if it is a book club of people I know, and there is alcohol involved, it could be doable...
Once a month if the books aren't super-long is totally doable. Plus, these things always degenerate anyhow.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking this idea: books, people we know, and alcohol? How could it go wrong?
