Genomics Started with Boozing Session in Maine

Though the word first appeared in a 1987 article by Victor McKusick and Frank Ruddle in the premier issue of the journal Genomics, the authors gave credit to Roderick, who describes its genesis thusly:

"One evening, about 10 of us were at a raw bar, drinking beer and discussing possible titles for the new journal. We were on our second or third pitcher when I suggested 'genomics'. Little did we know then that it would become such a widely used term."

Of course, if I want to get the Nobel Prize, I'll have to move onto heavier stuff, like acid.
