A Request for Tuesday's "Friends Chill" @ Whistlestop

Maybe I really am turning into a crotchety old woman (at the ripe age of 25 and all), but I feel like this needs to be said.

The last two times that I've been to Friends Chill night at the Whistlestop, the music has been too damn loud.

Reminder to the DJ - you're not trying to start a dance party. You're providing background music for board games, video games, and conversation.

When that music starts to impede with any of those things, that's when I finish my one and only drink and then take my drinking business down the road to Hamilton's.

  1. I have to agree with this one. But I also have to admit that I've never gone up and actually said something to the DJ.

  2. I completely disagree with this on many levels, as I do with most blogs/entires that read like this one; overly subjective diary entries. Friendschill has been around since 2001 and is one of the only places in SD to hear the type of music the DJ's showcase (anwhere from Aphex Twin to Kraftwerk and Stereolab to Squarepusher). The Dj's happen to be some of the most approachable Dj's I've ever met, so perhaps next time (if there is a next time for you) you could politely ask them to turn it down. But if you don't like what they're playing, well... that's your opinion. The games are indeed a treat as always but are not the sole purpose of the night. CHeers!

  3. To clarify a 7-month-old blog post: I love the Whistlestop. I love the music that the DJs play there. I love the DJs. My only beef with that night (and the reason for the blog post), was that the night is billed as "Friends Chill." The volume of the music was not chill-conducive. The previous times I had been to Friends Chill, the music was at a level where a suitable conversation could be held, without involving yelling.
